চুরি না করলে মিলবে না খাওয়ার।  নিজের মায়ের বিরুদ্ধে ছয় বছরের এই শিশুকন্যার দাবি ঘিরে চাঞ্চল্য ছাড়ালো  মালদার  ইংরেজবাজারে।ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে ইংরেজবাজার থানার কৃষ্ণ কালিতলা এলাকায়। ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু করেছে ইংরেজবাজার থানার পুলিশ।

জানা গিয়েছে বেশ কয়েকদিন আগে প্রতিবেশী মায়া ঘোষের বাড়িতে চুরি হয়।  ঘটনাটি দেখে নেই এলাকার আরেকটি শিশু।  এরপরে সমস্ত ঘটনা শিশুটি মায়া ঘোষকে  জানায়।  এরপরে মায়া ঘোষ স্থানীয় ইংরেজবাজার থানায় অভিযোগ জানায়।  এরপর এই মায়া ঘোষ ওই শিশুটিকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করে আর এতেই উঠে আসে চাঞ্চল্যকর তথ্য। শিশুটি জানাই চুরি না করলে বাড়িতে খেতে দেওয়া হবে না এমনকি মারধর করা হয় ওই শিশুটিকে।  শিশুটি বাধ্য হয়ে এই চুরির পথেই হাটে। এমনকি শিশুটি আরো জানায় তিন দিন ধরে শিশুটিকে খেতে দেওয়া হয়নি বলে অভিযোগ। বিষয়টি জানতে পেরে তড়িঘড়ি মায়া ঘোষ স্থানীয় এনজিও কর্মীকে সমস্ত ঘটনা জানায়। এরপরে ওই এনজিওকর্মী শিশুটিকে নিয়ে ইংরেজবাজার থানার পুলিশের দ্বারস্থ হয়। বর্তমানে শিশু টি একটি হোমে রয়েছে এই ঘটনায় জেলা জুড়ে চাঞ্চল্য ছড়িয়েছে।

ইংলিশবাজার থানার আই সি পূর্ণেন্দু কুণ্ডু জানান শিশুটিকে হোমে পাঠানো হয়েছে গোটা ঘটনার তদন্ত করা হচ্ছে।  যদিও শিশুটির মা জানান তার স্বামী দিপেন দর্জি পেশায় ভিন রাজ্যের শ্রমিক সে বর্তমানে ভিন রাজ্যে রয়েছে।এর ফলে বাড়িভাড়া ও সংসার চালানো তাদের পক্ষে খুবই কষ্টকর।  তবে মেয়েকে চুরির কথা আমরা কখনোই বলিনি।
